I’ve worked in the remodeling industry for over 7 years.  Like most, I started not sure of much more than you needed a hammer to hit a nail.  In time, I had the opportunity to serve as a project manager overseeing kitchen and bathroom renovations.  In the last year, I started Fidelis Home Renovation to help people transform their homes utilizing a simple process that finishes quickly and costs less.

A great contractor is really good at delivering on high-quality, craftsman caliber work, but is also great at business.  This includes timely communication and delivery of work.  Quick turnaround on a proposal to contract to project schedule.  Thoughtful attention to detail all the way through a project, including the proposal and contract.  Attentive listening to your priorities so you get to enjoy the process and eventually the new space.  And lastly but very important, someone who you don’t mind being around since they will be spending a lot of time in your presence and your home!

Every industry has its strengths and weaknesses.  One of the struggles I address is doing high quality work on various sized projects.  Need a full renovation of your kitchen, no problem.  Need a new door hung, no problem.  Need some drywall patched, no problem.   The other dilemma I wanted to change was making remodeling work affordable for the average homeowner.  No need to make a million dollars a year to be able to afford improving your home.  One simple way to make a project more affordable is to have the client do all the shopping.  Everyone loves to shop, right?  You pay directly for all the materials for your project.  No markup.  I just get to give you some product recommendations and guidance.

A great renovation client is just a nice person that is enjoyable to be around.  They also take their design and purchase assignments seriously.  Best of all, they have really high standards for their contractor and the work being done!

YouTube and HGTV have really made home renovations look simple.  However, you don’t know what you don’t know.  The experience, knowledge, tools, and materials required to build correctly, and that will stand the test of time, are only gained over time.

Too often people wait to finish all their dreamed-about home renovation work when they are planning to move.  Renovating a home yields the least amount of value when it’s completed to sell it for someone you don’t even know.  Your money is most valuable to you, so be sure to spend it wisely on a renovation project you’ll get to enjoy so you can get the most out of your investment.

When considering renovating your current home or buying a new one; you’ll often pay half to renovate a space in your existing home vs what you’ll pay for a new place, despite the “new” home’s condition.

Kitchens for sure. Followed closely by bathrooms. However, kitchens are the heartbeat of a home these days. So, having a modern, functional, beautiful kitchen that you actually want to be in brings joy to everyone.
